Interac E-transfers


You can use Interac® e-Transfers to send money in minutes to anyone with an email address and an account at a participating Canadian credit union or bank. The process is simple, convenient and secure. It's a great alternative to cheques and cash.

Is it Safe?
With Interac® e-Transfers, your money never actually travels by email. Email is only used to notify the recipient and to provide them with instructions on how to deposit money. Getting Started

Create a Registration Profile and Recipient List
Before you can use the Interac® e-Transfer feature you will need to create a user profile and recipient list.

How to create a user profile
  1. Login to online banking and click on the Transfers category in the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. The menu will expand and then select Send INTERAC® e-Transfer
  3. A new screen will appear - Create Interac e-Transfer Profile.
  4. Enter your first and last name and your email address
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Your profile is now created.
What you should know:
  • Tthe email address that you have entered will be used to inform you when your transfer has been received or declined.
  • You can update your profile at any time in Online Banking by selecting Send INTERAC® e-Transfer in the left-hand navigation menu and then by selecting the Edit Sender Profile link.
How to create and add a recipient
  1. Go to the Transfers category in the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. Select Add/Delete Recipients.
  3. Select Add Recipient.
  4. Fill in the applicable information for your recipient in the screen that pops up
  5. Click Add Recipient button
  6. After verifying that the recipient's information is correct, click Confirm button.
  7. Your new entry can be found by selecting Add/Delete Recipients from the left-hand navigation menu or by clicking the Edit Recipient link on any of the Interac® e-Transfer pages. It will also appear in the drop down list when you go to Send INTERAC® e-Transfer.
What you should know:
  • For your security only you and the recipient should know the security question and answer. You can communicate this to the recipient by phone or in person for additional security.
  • You can edit recipient's information at any time, or delete a recipient if you no longer need to send them money by email.

Sending and receiving an Interac® e-Transfer

After you have created your user profile and a recipient list you can now send an Interac® e-Transfer.

How to send an Interac® e-Transfer:
  1. Login to Online Banking and go to the Transfers category in the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. Select Send INTERAC® e-Transfer
  3. Select the recipient from your recipients list in the drop down menu
  4. Select the method you want to send by, ie. email or mobile phone or both
  5. Enter the account to withdraw from and the amount of money you want to send
  6. You can enter a short message for the recipient. (This message should not contain the answer to the security question.)
  7. Click Send Transfer to complete the transaction.
Important information
  • A non-refundable service fee of $1.60 will be charged for sending money by email. The recipient's bank or credit union may also charge a service fee to receive the money.
  • It can take 15 minutes or more for the recipient to receive an email informing them that you have sent them money.
  • If the recipient has not deposited the money that you sent to them by email, you can send them an email reminder on the Pending Email Money Transfers page.
  • If the money you have sent has not been deposited within 30 days it will be automatically deposited back into your account.
  • Once money has been deposited by the recipient it cannot be canceled. Be sure to verify the email address before you send money.
  • Keep the password secret so that only you and the recipient know the answer.
  • The daily maximum transfer amount is $3,000
Receive an Interac® e-Transfer

Acadian Credit Union members can receive an Interac® e-Transfer. Money received by email will be deposited directly into your personal Acadian Credit Union account.

How to receive money by email
  1. Click the link in the email. You will be directed to a special site operated by Certapay, an Interac subsidiary.
  2. Follow the instructions on the Certapay site and select Acadian Credit Union.
  3. Follow the instructions on the Certapay site to login to Online Banking.
  4. Login to Online Banking and enter the answer to the security question.
  5. Choose the Acadian Credit Union account into which you wish to deposit the money.
How to cancel an Interac® e-Transfer

You can cancel an Interac® e-Transfer before it has been deposited by the recipient.
Note that the $1.60 service fee will not be refunded when you cancel an email transfer.
  1. Click Pending link that appears at the top of the Interac® e-Transfers pages to view an e-Transfer that you have sent but has not yet been deposited.
  2. Click Cancel to cancel the transfer and to deposit the money back into your account.
What you should know:
  • There is no fee to deposit money into your account that you have received by email.
  • If you do not want to deposit the money into your account you can decline the transfer.

New Features

Autodeposit

 

The Autodeposit feature allows you to have money sent via Interac e-Transfer automatically deposited directly into your bank account, without having to answer a security question. The Autodeposit feature continues to provide the value of Interac e-Transfer, without the need to share financial information.

For senders, there is added convenience of not needing to convey security answers while continuing to have the security of knowing who is receiving the funds, prior to sending.

Set-up is simple:
  1. Log in to your financial institution's online or mobile banking and navigate to Autodeposit, typically found in the Interac e-Transfer settings.
  2. Register your e-mail address and link your account. Any transfers to the registered email address will be automatically deposited into the account.
  3. You will receive an email to confirm your registration. Check your inbox and click "Complete Registration".
Request Money

Easily request money you are owed with the Interac e-Transfer Request Money feature. When you send a request for money, the recipient is notified instantly and can accept the request. If accepted, the requested amount will be automatically deposited into your account and you will be notified when funds are available.Log in to your financial institution's online banking or mobile banking and navigate to Interac e-Transfer Request Money.
  1. Add or select a contact and fill out the name and e-mail address or mobile phone number of the person you wish to send the request to.
  2. Type in the specified amount you are requesting and select the account you would like the funds to be deposited into. You can also include a personalized message with the request.
  3. Once the recipient has fulfilled your request, funds will immediately be deposited into your bank account and you will be notified immediately.
